The mediations of processus and productions of research and creation
Since the ninety’s, a set of public policies supports projects between artists, cultural institutions, public research organisms, universities and industries. I am interested by the artistic and scientist cultural institutions, which coordinate academic research, artistic creation, technological development, and the diffusion of its results during exhibitions. My object of research is the construction and the functioning of cultural institutions, such as communicational dispositif, at the interface of art, science, technology and society. The notion of dispositif implies three levels of analysis. First, a dispositif is a place of interaction, where a type of social link and powers strategies appear. I will use symbolic interactionism (Becker), the ethnomethodology (Goffman), and the theory of communicative action (Habermas). Secondly, a dispositif is a symbolic space, where is produced performative discourses, which the signification is negotiated between the actors. My research will be in line with the pragmatic approach of cultural institutions (Davallon, Gallaverna). Thirdly, a dispositif is based on a technology, which memories the logics of action and communication. This level involves the recourse of situated action (Suchman, Norman). My thesis is based on two main hypotheses, about the organization of production and distribution of transverse works. My first hypothesis is that the collective actions between artists, scientists, and engineers in cultural institutions produce modalized frameworks (Goffman, Villagordo), where actions, discourses and the using of technic own new meanings and so, new logics. My second hypothesis is the fragmentation of the results of interdisciplinary residence. The results are divided between a direct result ordered by the institution and externalities distributed in different worlds. These products would have a career, during which they would be labeled differently according to the successive frameworks, and they would be a source of modalization in these frameworks. To confirm these hypotheses, I will use three methods. I will observe and interview artists, scientists and engineers in a situation of collective and transversal work, organized by a cultural institution, to analyze the social organization of their practices, discourses, and technical use, in these specific communicational dispositifs. These methods can also be applied to the situation of object’s diffusion produced transversally. They will allow studying the organization of the communication around transversal products to the society. Finally, I will constitute a corpus of texts with institutions’ publications and press articles. Thus, I will observe the statement or the labeling of transversal products, and so, their social construction in their communication. The results expected are models of organization of transversal and collective activities, and models of common communication of art, science and technology to society.
